In partnership with the Dream Blue Foundation (DBF), IREX is training school teachers to incorporate technology in education through TAT-Tunisia.
Description
Three years after its revolution, Tunisia stills struggles for much-needed reforms, including in its education system. A significant gap between marketplace needs and students’ education continues to fuel high youth unemployment. With the country opening up, Tunisians are hungry for new education and technology skills to improve their society.
That’s why IREX is pleased to announce a new partnership with Dream Blue Foundation (DBF) to bring the successful Tech Age Teachers model to Tunisia.
“Tech Age Teachers gives educators 21st century skills, which they in turn pass on to their students,” notes Robert Cronin, who heads IREX’s Center for Collaborative Technology.
Through Tech Age Teachers Tunisia, educators can put their new skills to immediate use, from improving classroom instruction to streamlining administration. They will learn to create classroom presentations and lesson plans that engage their students as well as track attendance, calculate grades, and develop assignments and tests.
In addition, participating teachers will be able to use the Internet and social media to increase their subject knowledge and connect with other educators, allowing them to share ideas, techniques, and resources as they create a sense of community across different schools in Tunisia.
"By bringing everyday technology into the classroom, Tech Age Teachers not only encourages but also helps make education more relevant for both the teachers and the students," said Seungah Lee, Director of Dream Blue Foundation.
Tech Age Teachers builds on IREX’s other program activities with Tunisia, including the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Program’s Tunisia Undergraduate Scholarship Program (Tunisia UGRAD) and the Tunisia Community College Scholarship Program (TCCSP) as well as Community Solutions.
